Acupuncture for Weight Loss: Does It Work?

Many people struggle to keep their weight under control. Some have always been large, some are a healthy weight but have to work very hard to stay that weight. Others put on weight later in life. Losing weight can be very difficult. There are many different diets out there which are recommended. Some do not agree with each other and most people find that although they can stick to one for a while, it is very difficult to make the necessary lifestyle changes to lose weight.

There are other things that people may try such as diet pills, Chinese herbs and other alternative remedies are often taken to try to help, including acupuncture. However, some people feel that it does not work.

Like most diet aids, it does need to be used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle. You will not be able to eat anything you want and do no exercise and lose weight with acupuncture alone. However, it has been found to reduce stress which can help to stop overeating. Some people binge eat comfort foods that are unhealthy when they feel stressed and so having acupuncture can help to reduce the stress and take away the need for that overeating. It is also felt that acupuncture and help to re balance the hormones and so if metabolism is out of balance this can help things.

However, acupuncture wasn’t traditionally used for weight loss. Only stress eaters may find that they benefit from it and it will still take will power and a healthy diet in order to lose weight. It is therefore necessary to make sure that you are aware of what a healthy diet is and how you can use it to lose weight. If you do not know what to eat in order to lose weight, then you will not find a great deal of benefit from the acupuncture. Therefore if you are considering using it, make sure that you firstly see a dietitian, nutritionist or seek advice from your doctor on how you should change your diet. You might be able to educate yourself by looking at a selection of websites as well and so you can work out what you think will work the best for you.

There is not a lot of research on using acupuncture for weight loss. This means that it is difficult to know whether it might work. Of course, even if a lot of people find that it works for them, it does not mean that it will work for everyone. Therefore you may decide that you think it is worth a try anyway as it could work for you. On the other hand, you may decide that you would rather save the money and try to lose weight on your own. You could always try acupuncture if you find that other methods do not work for you.

Before doing anything to lose weight it is important to see your GP. They will be able to give you help as to what to do to lose weight as well as let you know whether they feel acupuncture is safe for you. They may even be able to recommend someone that they feel would be good for you to use.
